Returning with his most unabashedly gay film yet, director Lukas Dhont (Academy Award nominee CLOSE) delivers an epic romance set at the height of World War I in the Belgian trenches.
Pierre arrives at the front lines as a young soldier eager to find his footing, soon losing his faith to the brutality of war. Everything changes when he meets Francis, a worldly fellow comrade who stages gender-bending theater shows to lift the troops’ spirits, unlocking a world Pierre never knew existed.
What begins as a fleeting escape soon blossoms into an aching love story, powered by award-winning lead performances. As war rages on, COWARD explores the line between fear and fortitude, ultimately asking: When the world demands violence, is walking away for love the truest act of bravery?
