In its 30th anniversary year, Tom Kalin’s revisionist approach to the Leopold and Loeb murder case remains a galvanizing and thought-provoking work

Description

Premiering at the 1992 Sundance Film Festival, SWOON reimagines the controversial 1924 murder case involving lovers Leopold and Loeb, with writer/director Tom Kalin, co-writer Hilton Als, and pioneering producer Christine Vachon dramatizing the hot-blooded relationship between the notorious pair and the resulting treatment they received on a social scale. Brilliantly shot on grainy black and white by cinematographer Ellen Kuras, this visionary achievement goes far beyond a true-crime tale to create a complex meditation on behavior, anger, and identity.

Now celebrating its 30th anniversary, SWOON remains a galvanizing and thought-provoking work — a truly landmark film to emerge from the New Queer Cinema movement. Screening in 35mm.

This screening will be followed by a Q&A with Tom Kalin (Director/Co-Writer) and Lauren Zalaznick (Exec Producer), moderated by Mark Harris.
