In a documentary at once intimate and generationally sprawling, director Keri Pickett explores the life and legacy of renowned ice skater, gay photographer, and her uncle Roy Blakey, known to many as “Uncle Roy” throughout his life.
Featuring decades of archival footage, personal memorabilia, and interviews with those closest to him, UNCLE ROY traces Blakey’s life from a movie-obsessed queer boy in Oklahoma to a globetrotting skater and a groundbreaking gay erotic photographer. As his health and memory decline with dementia, Pickett races urgently to preserve his legacy. This heartfelt film, an archive and a tribute to his life’s work, creates a permanent home for Blakey’s extraordinary story—all before his final call.
