THE INSPECTION (U.S. Centerpiece)
A young gay Black man finds unexpected support and camaraderie after he joins the Marines
Description
Prior to the U.S. Centerpiece screening of THE INSPECTION, NewFest alumnus Elegance Bratton will receive the inaugural Breakthrough Queer Visionary Award.
Rejected by his mother and with few options for the future, a young gay Black man decides to join the Marines. Doing whatever it takes to succeed in a system that would cast him aside, Ellis (Emmy and Tony award-nominated actor Jeremy Pope) battles deep-seated prejudice and the grueling routines of basic training. But he finds unexpected support and camaraderie in this new community, giving him a hard-earned sense of belonging that will shape his identity and forever change his life.
Inspired by filmmaker Elegance Bratton’s own story and featuring indelible turns from Gabrielle Union, Raúl Castillo, and Bokeem Woodbine, THE INSPECTION announces a bold new voice in the landscape of American cinema.
This film will be followed by a Q&A.
