Description

NewFest alum Ira Sachs returns with a poignant, lyrical drama about a downtown actor living with AIDS, set to the pulse of late-1980s New York City.

As Jimmy (Oscar winner Rami Malek) struggles to remember his lines for an upcoming performance, he hungers for joy, love, and affirmation from his partner Dennis (Tom Sturridge), a new neighbor Vincent (Luther Ford), and his sister Brenda (Rebecca Hall). THE MAN I LOVE moves through rehearsals, domestic spaces, and dinner parties, brought to vivid life by its sterling ensemble and soundtrack. With a rich sense of time and place, the film captures a downtown art scene bursting with vitality and love even as the AIDS crisis looms over it.
