An all-star cast of trans artists and actors use a talk-show format to resurface the legacy and stories of mid-century trans lives.

Description

NEW YORK PREMIERE
(In-Person + Virtual)
Winner of the NEXT Innovator and Audience Awards at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, FRAMING AGNES uses talk-show storytelling techniques to share the stories of previously unknown people who redefined gender in the mid-century. In 1958, a young trans woman named Agnes entered a study about sex disorders at UCLA to get the gender-affirming care she needed, by any means necessary. In the decades since, her story was long considered to be exceptional – that is until never-before-seen case files of other patients were found in 2017.

Directed by celebrated filmmaker Chase Joynt (NO ORDINARY MAN), this illuminating investigation uses re-enactments and genre-blurring to create a new form of portraiture, and features an all-star cast of transgender artists and performers including Angelica Ross (POSE), Jen Richards, Zackary Drucker, Silas Howard, Max Wolf Valerio, and Stephen Ira. 75 min.
