NewFest presented Academy Award® nominated actor Colman Domingo (RUSTIN, NewFest35’s Opening Night Film) with the NewFest36 Voice & Visibility Award at The 36th Annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival on Saturday, October 12th. Colman Domingo has had a prolific career helping uplift LGBTQ+ artists and stories in mainstream media. His portrayal of Bayard Rustin in the acclaimed film, RUSTIN, which premiered at NewFest35, earned him Oscar, BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild, Golden Globe, and Critics Choice nominations. Most recently, Domingo starred in and produced Greg Kwedar’s SING SING which was released by A24 this past summer. He appeared as Ali in the acclaimed HBO series EUPHORIA, for which he won a Primetime Emmy Award, as well as Muncie Daniels in the Netflix limited series THE MADNESS. Beyond film and television, Colman Domingo has appeared in and written a number of plays and musicals. He was part of the producing team of the Pulitzer Prize winning play FAT HAM and co-wrote the Tony Award–nominated SUMMER: THE DONNA SUMMER MUSICAL.
