In Jordan Firstman’s feature debut—a triumph at this year’s Cannes—the filmmaker writes, directs, and stars as Peter, a hard-partying New York City club promoter whose whirlwind lifestyle is upended by the arrival of the 10-year-old son he never knew he had.
At odds with his business partner (Cara Delevingne) and on the brink of a breakdown, Peter greets the newfound responsibility with a balance of temerity, wit, some cheeky uncertainty and, ultimately, deep mutual care. Wry and heartfelt in equal measure, CLUB KID captures New York’s queer community with self-effacing honesty—a crowd-pleaser that will charm even the most churlish cynic.
