CABO NEGRO
An ambiguously sexy thriller set in a Moroccan beach town
Description
Suddenly stranded in a resort villa they cannot afford when their expected host never arrives, Soundouss and Jaâfar must figure out ways to make money—fast. Set in the titular, eerily tranquil Moroccan beach enclave, this beguiling feature from Abdellah Taïa (SALVATION ARMY) is both a sly examination of upended expectations, homophobia and sex tourism and an ambiguously sexy vacation thriller. Reckoning with queerness within the prism of Arabic and Muslim culture, Taïa adds artistic rigor to confront age-old beliefs while maintaining a compassionate gaze for all his characters.
