ALL OF US STRANGERS (Closing Night Film & Party)
A solitary writer discovers that his late parents have reappeared at his suburban childhood home
Description
One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, solitary writer Adam (Emmy Award® nominee Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor Harry (Academy Award® nominee Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (BAFTA Award® winner Jamie Bell and Emmy Award® winner Claire Foy), appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.
Writer/director Andrew Haigh makes a triumphant return to NewFest following his beloved WEEKEND (NewFest23’s Narrative Centerpiece in 2011). ALL OF US STRANGERS is a marvelous ensemble piece and deeply emotional experience – at once otherworldly and fully grounded – and distinctly exudes queer catharsis and decades-long resonance.
