A PLACE OF OUR OWN
Two trans best friends search for a new home after their sudden eviction in central India
Description
Best friends Laila and Roshni have been evicted by their landlord and are now in search of a new place to live. As trans women in India, they face roadblocks all along their journey. But despite societal prejudices and countless obstacles, Laila and Roshni have each other. They share a friendship built on resilience that movingly speaks to the profound and tangible impact of queer community.
The film’s co-directors, the Ektara Collective, offer audiences a resonant story about being pushed to the margins. As Laila and Roshni’s search for a home continues, A PLACE OF OUR OWN uncovers that what they’re looking for transcends physical spaces and biological ties.
This film will be followed by a Q&A.
