A rabble-rousing documentary set in 1980s post-punk London tells the unheralded story of a community of activist dykes

Description

NewFest Pride Encore!

Charting the explosive 1980s era when punk met feminism, REBEL DYKES arrives in all its ass-kicking, leather-wearing glory. This rabble-rousing documentary follows a tight-knit group of friends who met at Greenham Common peace camp and went on to become artists, performers, musicians, and activists in London.

A heady mash-up of animation, archival footage, and interviews tells the story of a radical scene: squatters, BDSM nightclubs, anti-Thatcher rallies, protests demanding action around AIDS, trans-inclusivity, and the fierce ties of chosen families. Get a glimpse into an extraordinary, bygone world of those who lived out their politics with heartfelt conviction and lived to tell the tale.
