Adapted from Virginia Woolf’s Mrs. Dalloway, CLARISSA takes the setting from London to Lagos to deliver a gorgeous portrait of contemporary Nigeria.
Over the course of a single day in Nigeria’s largest city, a wealthy woman preparing for a high-society gathering and a traumatized young soldier confront the lingering weight of their pasts. Old friends and lovers resurface to stir up passionate memories, hidden desires, and yearning. The result is a bittersweet story shaped both by what’s been said aloud and all that has been withheld.
With Sophie Okonedo in the lead role, directors Arie and Chuko Esiri present a breathtaking adaptation that makes the separate narrative strands in Woolf’s novel feel as if they were always destined to converge.
