Treasure: From Tragedy to Trans Justice, Mapping a Detroit Story

New York Premiere.

Dream Hampton, 2015, USA, 63 min

In 2011 Treasure, a black trans teen from Detroit was found brutally murdered. Though it was initially assumed to be a hate crime, it turned out Treasure was killed by a drug dealer she informed on after police threatened to send her to a men’s prison. Without fetishizing the details, this powerful documentary examines the crime and the way her loved ones have turned themselves into activists to ensure something like this never happens again.

Join us afterwards for a discussion in response to the issues raised in TREASURE.
