Summer Camp

But I’m a Cheerleader (1999)

Sunday July 8 @ 7:30 pm

But I’m a Cheerleader

Dir: Jamie Babbit, USA, 1999, 85 mins

| Downstairs Film Club: Summer Camp |

Special FREE screening of NewFest 2000’s Opening Night Film

A taffy-colored throwback, this hilarious camp classic stars indie darling Natasha Lyonne as a teenager who’s been sent off to “rehab” camp by priggish parents and friends who suspect she’s queer and riffs on ostensibly outmoded conversion therapy procedures. Featuring a highly-stylized production design inspired by John Waters and a talented and diverse ensemble cast, BUT I’M A CHEERLEADER achieves a perfect blend between a sexy, charming love story and a razor-sharp, (still) topical social satire.

7:00PM: Doors Open
7:30PM: Film Begins

Free RSVP encouraged but not required. Seating is first come first served.

Beers & Queers deal: if you’re 21 or older, you can get two beers and a small popcorn for $10 from The Breslin Bar at Liberty Hall.

Co-Presented with Ace Hotel New York
