Description

Every Southerner takes a different approach to making sweet tea, just like every Southern gay Black man takes their own approach to “spilling tea” about their lives, loves, and friendships. Author, scholar, and playwright E. Patrick Johnson takes us on a journey through North Carolina, Georgia, New Orleans, and Washington, D.C., to bring us engaging first-person accounts of six Black gay men as he works to adapt his book “Sweet Tea” into a live solo show. This poignant and candidly raw documentary reveals the importance of overcoming adversity and always expressing oneself fully even in spaces where we largely aren’t accepted. Prepare to fall in love with these open-hearted subjects and their stories, and have a hankering for something a little bitter and very sweet by the film’s end. Presented in partnership with Jack'd Part of The 32nd Annual New York LGBTQ+ Film Festival
