In the United States, 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBTQ. This timely narrative feature debut from writer/director and Instagram superstar Max Emerson (@maxisms), poignantly captures the plight of LGBTQ youth. Unaccepted at home, 18-year-old Jack (Conor Donnally) survives in New York City through sex work, while trying to build a better life with his loving boyfriend Tom (Sean Ormond). When a closeted older client enters the picture, their challenges mount as Jack is taken from the homeless shelters of Manhattan to the shiny but deceptive dream of a better life in Miami.
Funded through crowdsourcing and a commitment to donating to LGBTQ organizations, HOOKED is proof that cinema can tell powerful stories of underrepresented, neglected populations while directly giving back the community.
