Becoming More Visible

Dir: Pamela French, US, 2016, 72 mins

| NewFest at The Center Presents | Screening, Talkback and Reception

Winner! Award of Merit, IMPACT DOC AWARDS

As groundbreaking as it is intimate, BECOMING MORE VISIBLE takes an insightful look at the varied lives and challenges of four young adults as they transition into their authentic identity. Pamela French’s eye-opening documentary follows Sean, a transgender male comedian from a small affluent town in upstate NY, Katherine, a Bangladeshi transgender girl from a close-knit Muslim family, Olivia, who had to leave everything behind and enter the shelter system in order to be the woman she knows she is, and the unforgettable Morgin, a fully transitioned woman pursuing her musical ambitions and making her way in the world.

Their stories are intercut with experts working in the transgender space: doctors, psychologists, social workers, activists, and writers like Andrew Solomon, whose book Far From the Tree tells the stories of parents who “not only learn to deal with their exceptional children but also find profound meaning in doing so.”
